Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important official said the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
